RAWALPINDI:
Islamabad residents, voters, and local government candidates have filed 31 objections against the newly proposed local government delimitations, which increase the number of union councils (UCs) from 125 and raise the number of general councillor wards per UC from six to nine.
The appellate authority, headed by Regional Election Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Naeem Ahmed, has begun regular hearings on the objections starting Monday.
Petitioners have challenged the inclusion of certain areas into nearby UCs and the revised distribution of general wards.
Hearings on all objections will be completed by Friday, February 21, with decisions expected within two days.
A final report will be submitted to the chief election commissioner, after which the final list of constituencies is set to be released by March 2.
