Once considered Pakistan’s best batsman, Babar Azam’s recent slump in form has raised concerns about his future in international cricket. Despite this, Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal remains confident Babar will return to his best.
Babar Azam’s rapid rise through the ranks of Pakistan cricket once saw him compared to modern greats like Virat Kohli and Steve Smith to become the World’s premier batsman. However, in recent times, his form has sharply declined, casting doubts over his once-promising career.
Karachi Kings owner Salman Iqbal, in a recent podcast, stated his confidence in Babar Azam’s ability to make a strong comeback. Iqbal boldly claimed that Babar will eventually surpass even Virat Kohli.
“When Babar Azam makes a comeback again, he will be a bigger player than any other player in the world, including Virat Kohli. He will be matched with names like Garry Sobers and Sir Viv Richards,” Iqbal stated.
He added that Babar’s “class” would remain evident, insisting that true class in cricket is always permanent.
The 28-year-old batsman was notably dropped from the Pakistan squad for the Test series against England at home, and more recently, he was left out of the T20I squad for the series against New Zealand.
Babar had hoped that a strong showing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) would help him regain his form, but his start with Peshawar Zalmi has been disappointing. He managed just one run across two matches, leaving fans and pundits questioning his place in the side.
As Babar Azam looks to recover from his recent struggles, the cricketing world remains divided on his future. With high expectations for his return to form, only time will tell if he can bounce back to the heights many once believed were his destiny.
