Islamabad United confirmed Sunday that Australian all-rounder Matt Short has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 due to a recurrence of an injury sustained during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year.
In a statement released ahead of their clash with Karachi Kings, the PSL franchise said Short initially showed encouraging signs of recovery upon his arrival in Pakistan.
However, he later reported discomfort during training sessions, prompting a joint medical review by Islamabad United’s and Cricket Australia’s medical teams.
“Following thorough assessment, both parties agreed that it would be in the best interest of Matt’s long-term health and career to withdraw him from the tournament,” the franchise said.
The 27-year-old has since returned to Australia to continue rehabilitation under the supervision of Cricket Australia.
“Islamabad United remain fully committed to the well-being of all our players and extend our support to Matt during his recovery,” the statement read. “We thank him for his professionalism and positive presence in the camp, and wish him a swift and complete recovery.”
No replacement for Short has been announced.
Islamabad United currently sit atop the PSL 10 table with three wins from as many matches. The team will face Karachi Kings on Sunday evening at Karachi’s National Stadium.
