Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has registered a major sales tax fraud case against internationally renowned fashion designer Nomi Ansari, alleging a Rs1.25 billion tax evasion, Express News reported.
According to sources, the Corporate Tax Office (CTO) Karachi lodged the FIR after preliminary investigations revealed substantial evidence of tax evasion.
Acting on search warrants obtained from a magistrate, FBR teams raided Ansari’s factory and multiple outlets in Mehran Town, Korangi, and DHA, seizing financial records.
The FBR has also issued a tax demand order against Ansari. Authorities stated that the case is part of a broader crackdown on tax evasion, as enforcement actions intensify across the country.
“A case involving Rs1.25 billion in sales tax fraud has been registered against Nomi Ansari. Enforcement teams are actively pursuing tax defaulters in accordance with new directives,” said an FBR official.
Sources added that Ansari, who is currently abroad, may be arrested upon return to Pakistan and will be presented before the Customs and Taxation Court.
This is not the first action against Ansari. In February this year, the CTO Karachi sealed several of his business outlets for violations of sales tax regulations and failure to comply with Point-of-Sale (POS) integration laws.
The FBR has confirmed that enforcement efforts are ongoing, with regional offices across Pakistan ramping up investigations into high-profile tax evasion cases.
