Five killed in deadly road crashes

Deadly road crashes in different areas of the metropolis claimed five lives on Saturday, the police and rescue officials said.

As per details, a speeding trailer overturned and plunged into a deep ditch near a petrol pump on Northern Bypass, within the jurisdiction of Gadap City police station after the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, resulting in his death and injuries to the cleaner.

Rescuers shifted the victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased was identified as 45-year-old Riaz, the driver of the trailer, while the injured was identified as 30-year-old Mazhar Hussain. Both hailed from Punjab.

Separately, a 30-year-old pedestrian was run over by an unidentified vehicle near Toll Plaza on Superhighway. The body was shifted to the Chhipa morgue for identification.

Another fatal hit-and-run occurred at Main Chowrangi in Liaquatabad late Friday night. An elderly man was critically injured after being struck by an unidentified vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries at JPMC. Nothing was found to identify the deceased. His body was shifted to the morgue.

A young motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider injured when a university bus hit the two-wheeler in North Karachi. The deceased was identified as 17-year-old Zaman while the injured youth was identified as 18-year-old Amir. Bus driver fled the scene.

One person died and another sustained injuries, when a speeding Suzuki pickup overturned near the main gate of a private housing society on Superhighway.
